At the moment I am trying to sort out what to do after I finish honours in April. My current plan in terms of further study is to start my phd in 2011. My boyfriend returns to Australia begining of December this year so I don't want to be tied up with anything when he gets back. So that leaves me with around six months. Hypothetically I should get some sort of job - but what... Should I put in some effort and try and get a biology related job?
I really have a craving at the moment to go overseas. Maybe I could be an au pair? I can speak a bit of german - studied it for 4 years in high school. I can't think of any other jobs I could do overseas. I could also au pair in New Zealand which would be pretty cool. OR maybe work someone else in Australia - like up north (since I love it up there). I just feel that I need to get out of Sydney for a bit. Out of my comfort zone.
Has anyone got any suggestions or knowledge in this area???

I have absolutely no knowledge or exoperience in this but enjoy!
I have heard of Au Pairs who work with families overseas and get taken on their holidays etc so that could be fun. Good Luck and I hope someone else can actaully can help you with your decision.
As you've got the craving to travel I think you should look into it and do something amazing. Celebrate finishing your honours year in style! How exciting!
Bar work is generally easy to pick up overseas. I've also known people who have done a deal with a hostel to work there in exchange for accommodation and a small wage. Good luck whatever you decide to do!
Hmm...given that I'm a person who went straight from high school to uni and postgrad, I'm not experienced in this. For me, coming to Aus was the change but I came for studies. Generally, I think if you could look up some temp agencies o/s online that could probably help out. Within Australia shouldn't be too hard in terms of deciding...you could look for bar work, cafe work or even au pair in Aus. Or something seasonal. Anyway, good luck with it all! Really going out of your comfort zone which is awesome!
PPMJ - All my fellow honours students seem to want to celebrate by travelling somewhere. Pity that we are meant to stick around for up to 3 months for our honours interview - they don't tell us the date or anythibg - just that we have to be available in that time period!
Kellyansapansa - i don;t know how good I would be at barwork unfortunately :( Otherwise that would be great - if in an english speaking country of course!
I think to be an au pair you have to have a year commitment? This is a time to enjoy yourself and travel because later life will get in the way. Best of luck to you!! :)
I have been looking at this website and some families are just looking for a short term au pair - for example over summer. Different countries have different rules etc. Thanks Kathy :)
